Out with the Old, Out with the New

December 15, 2009

And by “out”, I mean out of the closet.  A total mix up of old and new today, but all beloved.  AND all serving one purpose… to set the mood for a day of hideous decorating.  I am actually too cheap to spend money on SL Christmas décor this year… that would take money out of my fashion budget, you know?  So that means I have been trotting out alllll sorts of hideously out of date SL decorations from years past.  Interesting in a historical way?  Yes.  Pretty?  Errr.  Ummmm.  Not usually. (What was I thinking??)

Anyhow, I will forge on with the FASHION notes, because unlike my plaid and poinsettia wreath there, I feel very sure that these clothes are perfectly lovely.  I’ll concentrate on the new…

First up: the mittens.  I cannot go another second without talking about my love for these big, wooly, embroidered things!  They were bought on a random visit to Frippery thanks to one holiday hunt or another, and they are new and completely wonderful.  You can’t see it here, but each mitten is embroidered differently.  I would apologize for my ill-chosen pose not showing you both hands, but then again… now you have a surprise waiting for you when you buy yours.

Second: the SOCKS.  Not revolutionary, you say? What would you think if I told you I plucked them off a TREE?  A sock TREE?   Aha!  I knew I would get your interest.  Slow Kitchen has hit on an irresistible Christmas idea: socks on a tree, just L$20 each.  Fatpacks for just L$80.  Amazing selection, from the ordinary (like these) to the truly original and amazing.  Different bulks, different materials, different lengths… it is the most sock fun ever.

More new details: Christmas glasses!  Leave it to Duboo to do the most funky, cool little Christmas glasses, and then offer them up in 3 variations WITH 3 Christmas tights as well.  Completely wonderful.  Plus, they have an option to attach on the left ear, which left me room for candy cane and eyelashes as well.  Huzzah!

Oooo, that reminds me: candy cane.  A Sanu interactive toy that not only looks great, but is kooky and fun for you and friends to play with by just clicking it.  Perfect for Christmas!

So, there you have it… another red and green outfit for your files.  Eventually I *will* want to wear other colors.  Just… not today.  After all, I am the best decorated thing in the house!  Heh.

Go have fun decorating yourselves, and I will see you soon!  MUAH!

Oldie Diner Flick

December 10, 2009

Just a little faux movie fun today, and a few new fave items of mine.  Think 50’s technicolor movie meets hipster girl looking for some breakfast?

First off, the would-be heroine is wearing a fantastic dress from Slow Kitchen.  I know– is there any other kind?  🙂  I particularly love the bright purple plaid of this one, which is the inspiration for the super-colored photos here.  So warm and wintery, but so bright and cute.  New boots from Gbberish add another level of brightness, with a furry texture and animal print, and the fit of a pair of favorite galoshes.  Loooove them!  Finally, to cover up the legs against the cold, I slipped on a pair of socks I picked up from one of Narwhal‘s newest outfits.  Alone or together, these outfit pieces can’t help but be squee.  It’s true.

Topping things off, quite literally– one of Maitreya‘s four new hairstyles.  This one is Alex, and the thick bangs are super cute, especially with Maitreya’s typically masterful soft texture.  Not too severe, but not too boring, you know?

Now… if only I had a MOVIE SCRIPT.  Or a director.  Yeah.  That would help.

Down Through the Chimney with Good St. Nick

December 9, 2009

OK, this may have to be my favorite Christmas carol now.  The Down the Chimney Hunt was not only a good bit of fun, I can’t BELIEVE the amount of quality loot on offer.  What a happy holiday surprise!  Thanks to all the designers who generously participated… and also, thanks to the organizers for getting so many different stores involved.  I shop a lot in SL, but it never ceases to happen that every hunt shows me a dozen or more stores I just never knew existed– and which I will be going back to again and again, natch.  The gift that keeps on giving, eh?

In the meantime, I have finally unwrapped all the spanking new prezzies the hunt gave me and managed to pull together a few outfits to spotlight some of my favorite new pieces.  Heeeeere we go!

Walk in the Fall

October 20, 2009

This is the first year I’ve spent the fall in such a warm climate, and it has my heart aching for real autumn weather!  My New England girl roots wish I had a little less hot sun, and a little more sweater weather.  So, if I can’t take a walk in the crisp, cool fall woods, at least Jenopolis can.  🙂

swing

I have been waiting for months to wear this sweater from Hotch Potch.  I can almost feel how cozy and sporty the fabric is, and the detail of the baggy fit is perfect: not too shapeless, not too tight.  It comes in some fun and funky colors, as well as the basic black I am wearing.  And the sleeves are the perfect length– something I looove to see.

full

I think you all know by now I am a fan of the uber-cute suetabulous yootz and her store, Beetlebones.  I was thrilled when I found out she was expanding her repertoire into hair!  This one is a preview of a style for the Designers United Crow event, and the cap is unbelievably fabulous in its detail.  Not only is it a touch-to-change pattern, the shape is so different.  Little points on the top, and almost floppy but not quite.  Yayyyy cute!

close up

The skin is JM Mai, and what can I say about it that you can’t see?  I am a huge fan of the red cheeks, perfect for a cool autumn day, and the lips are shiny and so real, and the freckles are perfectly placed.  Super cute, and not tooooo perfect.  One of my favorite casual skins, hands down.

sitting

To top off the outfit (or… uhhh… bottom it off?)  I slipped on my favorite hoorenbeek slip-ons.  These have an easy pattern changing system, and today I was feeling the hello kitty.   But for tramping around on fallen leaves and soft wet grass, nothing could be better or more comfy.

Details below… and if you have nice cool crisp fall weather where you are, send me some, would ya?  🙂

Quiet Quirk

October 19, 2009

sepia

I am the first to reach for my neon greens and fuschia when I am feeling particularly odd on any given day, but it is Monday.  I am feeling… quiet.  Sleepy.  And still a bit quirky.  So I pulled together this look entirely in shades of nude and white, inspired by the feeling of a Monday morning lull and the brilliant new stuff in my closet from Ohmai and Clawtooth.

full

The dress is Emma’s Ruffles, a utterly cute creation from Ohmai.  I think my favorite thing about shopping Ohmai, though, is looking through the names of the colors!  This is Nile Nudist.  Hee!  Doesn’t it just conjure up images of floating on Cleopatra’s barge in nothing but a black wig with a gold snake tiara?

Other than the name, of course, the silhouette is soooo yummy, and it comes as a dress (as shown here) and as a tunic top as well.  Squee!  I am a sucka for a twofa!

face

The other standout piece in this outfit is the 50 Linden special from Clawtooth this week.  A birdie made a nest on my head!!  I know, this has been around for a while, but I hadn’t seen it in this autumnal, soft color before, and I just love it.

A stunning necklace from ICON, some supercool tights from DARE, and a pair of unstoppably funky shoes from Miel all came together with the dress and err… hat.  I am ready to face Monday, in all its beigey dayness.

Hope you had a great weekend, and Happy Week!  🙂

Test Driving Eclat

October 14, 2009

There’s been such a fuss over the last couple of days, all around the new Eclat skin from Lelutka.  I couldn’t resist heading down to try some on, and I left with three.

So yeah, I like them.  🙂

Pricey, at 1500 Lindens per makeup, but I love what makes them different: the eyebrows, the shine, the hairline, the quirky photorealism, the sparebare and dramaWOW makeups…  They won me over.  An uber-natural look that is reminiscent to me of the old RAC skins, but on a whoooole new level.

The hairline is distinctive, and even comes with little add ons like bangs and three versions of ponytails.  The hair reeeeeeally looks like hair, and that… well, it’s a good and a bad thing.  I love it in close up photos, the delicate wisps right at the hairline.  To wear everyday?  Probably not.  But of course, all the skins come with non-hair versions, and you can wear your OWN hair collection over the hairline version in any case.

The skin is… luminous.  To the point of shininess.  For me, that is a very good feature.  I am a poor, graphics card-challenged girl, and the extra shine really looks great the way I see it, without windlight.  The lips are gorgeous, and the freckles– something I NEVER like to be without– are subtle and so real!

As for the eyebrows: who ever thought eyebrows could be so controversial?  But these are the most full brows I’ve ever seen on a skin, and I LOVE that.  A whole new SL eyebrow frontier.  It does mean, however, that if you want to wear these brows  you should edit your eyebrow shape to what looks right to you.  I tried the pre-brow shape that comes with Eclat, and I found it a bit too angular for my own liking.  That said, it took all of about one minute for me to edit appearance and fix it so it looked more me.  So not a deal-breaker, for sure!

Enough talking–  I’ll let my pics say the rest.  Hope you decide to take this new line for a test drive, and happy shopping!

Where Am I?

October 13, 2009

europe and sitting

I stumbled on Rumsey Maps today, and I just had to share.  I admit I’m a bit of a map geek, but what’s not to love??  Huge reproductions of antique maps, some on the ground, some flat and vertical, some suspended globes hanging above the terrain, and some are the terrain itself!  So I put on some of my favorite new casual duds, and took some touristy pics to give you a free tour. 🙂

My favorite map was the one above– an enormous old map of the world, laid out on the ground so you can walk from Siberia to South America and across all seven oceans.    After I was done checking out Europe from my seat in Tangiers, I mosied on over to India:

shoes and India

In addition to enlightening me on some of the old names of Indian cities, it was a chance for me to take a pic of some of my favorite shoes– from Periquita.  🙂  (You didn’t think I would totally ignore the fashion part, did you??)  I think they look particularly great with the Ohmai leggings, which have JUST the right length to them!

After a little admiring of footwear, I scooted into the 3D map and wandered the black and white valleys and peaks.

full view

Walking on water, I think.  The lack of blue confuses me!

close up

The big 3D reproduction of a drawing of the Grand Canyon was vivid and fascinating as well.  Kind of makes you think of what people had to look at to imagine far away places, waaaaay back when.  Not much to go on!  🙂

Have a fun, geeked out afternoon sometime and check it out!  In the meantime, here’s the deets on the outfit, and I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Back to Blog

October 12, 2009

Helloooooooo!  I have sufficiently recovered from wedding and post-wedding madness, and the scrapbook is done, and the pics are picked out and ordered, and the dress is even cleaned and boxed.  PHEW.  Time to get back to my favorite virtual closet, and catch up on some much neglected shopping!

back to school

The outfit above was totally inspired by the wonderful gingham dress by beetlebones.  Yay!  What a cuteness this is, and I love the stoplight red and deep plummy colors all criss crossed together.  Beetlebones is really expanding, or so it seems to me in the time warp I’ve been in, catching up on a month of unread notices.  This outfit is from the new(ish) Switch Mall location.  Yay, suetabulous!

I put this together with a new favorite of mine, the Modd G stockings.  They are not revolutionary or anything, but they are really well done stockings with or without feets, and that makes me sooooo happy for fall.  The best thing about them– the colors!  My legs feel ready for anything with my new fatpack.  Now on to the details…

(Close-ups, another outfit, more pics and all the slurls fit to print– after the jump!)

Here Comes the Bride

September 14, 2009

Saturday is my wedding day.  (Yayyy!  Happy Jen!)

Things are getting very hectic, though, so I will not be able to post for a few weeks.  (Boooo!  Sad Jen!)

In honor of my pending nuptuals and the topic that seems to be consuming every corner of my mind these days, I wanted to put together a couple of wedding looks.

here comes

This dress from Lurve is a winner!  The detail in the texture is great… you can almost feel the weight of the fabric, and the silkiness.  See it?

I do

I adore the little feathery sweetness at the bustline, too.  The silhouette is grand, but not over the top, and it really lends itself to many kinds of weddings.  As with most SL wedding dresses, there are a variety of skirt options, and I have chosen the biggest here.  It was the only one I “lurved” really.  🙂

bouquet

And can we talk about this bouquet for a minute??  Exquisite!  I have to say, I was not a fan of LaPointe and BastChild‘s whole mega mall set up, and it was hard shopping there, but amidst all the flotsam and jetsam there were these gorgeous bouquets– WITH all sorts of fun wedding options attached!  Poses, throwing, etc.  OK, just posing and throwing.  But you get my drift…

Now… on to a vixen of a bride:

chapel

Hmmm.  From this angle, she doesn’t look so vixeny, I admit.  But I had to start off by showing you this train and bustle.  Oooooo, I love the bustle!  This dress from VictoriaV showcases V’s rightfully famous workmanship.  The attachments barely need any adjusting, and the skirt comes in a million different choices– again, this is the biggest.  The veil is from VictoriaV as well, a simple thing called the Erin that seemed to me went nicely with this simple and sexy dress.  Ohhh, and speaking of sexy:

happy bride

HERE you can see the corseting and plunging neckline and fitted bodice that make me squee!  Yes, she is a vixen all right, but not a slut.  There is a difference, no?  I love the way this works with the Poseidon pearls set, a great find from luc that I wear alllll the time, though never quite as nicely as here with this bridal look!  And instead of a full bouquet, I added in a lovely lily cuff from creamshop.  Ohhh, creamshop– how I adore you.

So… that is it, my sweets!  Next time I post, it will be as a married lady, but I solemnly promise no less squeeing and frivolity than my single self indulged in!  (For better or worse, eh?)

See you very soon… until then, check out the details below.  MUAHHHH!

Random Newishness

September 8, 2009

It has been a craaaaaazy week, and one which didn’t allow for much blogging, shopping, or picturing!  Sorry for the break, but I’ll try to catch up with a few outfits using some of the best new stuff I have gotten my pixelated paws on…

handstand

As a child of the 80s and 90s, I treasure my Nintendo memories, and these jeans from The Sea Hole made me smile and laugh out loud!  Great acid wash on them, and to top it off, a tribute to Super Mario on each thigh.  *sigh*  Adorable!  To let them stand out, I paired them with bold solids, including a favorite sweatshirt from Fishy Strawberry with the coolest length imaginable… I’ve never see a bolero sweatshirt in real life, but I think they should catch on immediately!  Imagine, all the coolness of a sweatshirt without hiding womanly curves.  Yay!  Add in the clogs from Tesla in a bold green, and I could totally imagine playing around in these duds.

Woo-hoo!

Untitled-1

The middle outfit here is all based around this excellent new dress from Elate, called the Penelope.  It has a simple, sexy top with a fish scale skirt that totally rocks.  I played the glamness of it down just a bit with this long vest from MayoNaise, which I got at the Black Market opening weekend.  Such cool ruffles on the bottom, and a clever use of skirt prim that does NOT require a special shape!  The shoes are part of a shopping spree I had at a store I recently discovered, R2 Fashion.  WOW.  Great wearable and funky shapes, in a ton of cool colors.
