Festivals of Flowers and Stars

July 5, 2010

For me, summer festivals are the bestest part of the season.  Sure, I love the beach and vacation and lazing around on weekends drinking beer at barbecues.  But there is something perfectly wonderful about wandering around a festival with a crispy sugary piece of fried dough, browsing through shop stalls, playing games of chance, and people watching.  *happy sigh*

You will understand, then, why I am so FREAKING excited by the plethora of summer fashion festivals all over SL these days.  I haven’t been able to cover them all yet, or even the very biggest (that will be its own post).  Today I am highlighting two of my smaller, quirky faves.   Not just because they are filled with excellent shopping– though they are.  The design and feel of these festivals is so… *happy sigh*.  Believe me, you will have fun!

When Only 1988 Will Do.

June 23, 2010

My latest workout mix is a tribute to the late 80s.  Besides the obvious appeal of synthesized musical goodness, it makes me smile just to listen to it.  I remember my big sister going to junior high dances, all side ponytailed up, Aqua Net in her bag, and thinking… man, some day I will be as cool as that.

Well, by the time I got that old, grunge had set in, and I was thwarted.  Flannel and dirty hair are fine in their way, but it would never satisfy that urge of mine to have a candy colored wardrobe and bright pink lipstick.  So, as is so often the case, I am inflicting my subconscious yearnings on you via SL fashion.  Look out! 🙂

This mood and look all came from one new purchase: Emery‘s one shoulder top.  It is simply SQUEE, in bright capital letters!  Besides the cleverness on the front, which makes me smile, the colors.  Are. Perfect.  Looooove!  Only one pair of pants in my (extensive) inventory was capable of holding its own with this shirt.  That would be the fabulous and quirky ziggy starbutt pants from the Sea Hole.  This store is a completely bizarre, completely wonderful place.  I got these pants a while ago, so I’m listing them here, hoping they are still on sale.  If not– eh, you will find other brilliance there, so I’m not going to apologize!

Now, let’s talk shoes.  These flip flops from creamshop are, in my book, a necessary purchase for the summer.  The toes are just genius, and the choice of nail polish and skin color are easy and rewarding.  Looking at these, I want to wiggle my feets in some sand RIGHT NOW.

Lastly, the W&Y hair.  Does any hair place walk the line between wearable and couture like W&Y?  I don’t think so!  I have so very many styles in my hair folder, and whenever I want an outfit to pop, I try a few on.  LOVE.

So– go get your Whitney Houston albums out, y’all, and have a great time playing dress up!  Happy shopping…

Here Comes the Bride

September 14, 2009

Saturday is my wedding day.  (Yayyy!  Happy Jen!)

Things are getting very hectic, though, so I will not be able to post for a few weeks.  (Boooo!  Sad Jen!)

In honor of my pending nuptuals and the topic that seems to be consuming every corner of my mind these days, I wanted to put together a couple of wedding looks.

here comes

This dress from Lurve is a winner!  The detail in the texture is great… you can almost feel the weight of the fabric, and the silkiness.  See it?

I do

I adore the little feathery sweetness at the bustline, too.  The silhouette is grand, but not over the top, and it really lends itself to many kinds of weddings.  As with most SL wedding dresses, there are a variety of skirt options, and I have chosen the biggest here.  It was the only one I “lurved” really.  🙂

bouquet

And can we talk about this bouquet for a minute??  Exquisite!  I have to say, I was not a fan of LaPointe and BastChild‘s whole mega mall set up, and it was hard shopping there, but amidst all the flotsam and jetsam there were these gorgeous bouquets– WITH all sorts of fun wedding options attached!  Poses, throwing, etc.  OK, just posing and throwing.  But you get my drift…

Now… on to a vixen of a bride:

chapel

Hmmm.  From this angle, she doesn’t look so vixeny, I admit.  But I had to start off by showing you this train and bustle.  Oooooo, I love the bustle!  This dress from VictoriaV showcases V’s rightfully famous workmanship.  The attachments barely need any adjusting, and the skirt comes in a million different choices– again, this is the biggest.  The veil is from VictoriaV as well, a simple thing called the Erin that seemed to me went nicely with this simple and sexy dress.  Ohhh, and speaking of sexy:

happy bride

HERE you can see the corseting and plunging neckline and fitted bodice that make me squee!  Yes, she is a vixen all right, but not a slut.  There is a difference, no?  I love the way this works with the Poseidon pearls set, a great find from luc that I wear alllll the time, though never quite as nicely as here with this bridal look!  And instead of a full bouquet, I added in a lovely lily cuff from creamshop.  Ohhh, creamshop– how I adore you.

So… that is it, my sweets!  Next time I post, it will be as a married lady, but I solemnly promise no less squeeing and frivolity than my single self indulged in!  (For better or worse, eh?)

See you very soon… until then, check out the details below.  MUAHHHH!

Hot and Hawter

August 13, 2009

I know it has been a while since I posted, and I don’t even have vacation as an excuse!  Actually, what I have is the ANTI-vacation excuse.  I’ve been stuck working and doing all the daily things that make life… you know… life, and it has been TOOOOO hot around here!  Like, melt your mama hot.

Well, one good thing has come out of this heat wave: it gave me an idea for the post.  Why is it that even though I know darn well my av cannot feel the temperature, I still feel a need to dress her to match MY temperature?  Strange thing, that.  But, in this case, good, because it gives me an excuse to show off a couple of my favoritey favorite new pieces, which are madly appropriate for when it gets crankypants hot outside.

hot 1

The first outfit is a casual romper from the new and deservedly popular Narwhal.  The green is super fun, and it has a great detail in texture and fit.  And, it couldn’t be more perfect for a hot day of running errands.  I paired it with two tanks, in yellow and pink, from Ohmai‘s collection, and my absolute favorite belt from Reek.  It changes texture, and what textures!  Gumby, Mario Brothers, Star Wars… the fit is great, too.  To top it off, I slipped into my creamshop flip flops.  LOVE!  SQUEE!  They are soooo cute, and the skin is truly easy to match, with little painted toes peeping out.  I put these on, then wore them to go out and buy a few more colors.  🙂

The second outfit is slightly more refined, but equally breezy and cool.  The Haver tiered frock from Whippet and Buck is stylish with the color blocking, and the tiers!  They attach at three different points, for total flexibility and a perfect fit, no matter what your proportions.  The shoes from Maitreya are in heavy rotation for me, and I can’t get over the awesome bows around the ankle.  Total, complete cuteness.

hot 2

I love my hair, but lord, I can’t stand to have it on my neck when it is hot out!  So neither can my av, apparently… the pigtails are courtesy of W&Y, and the frantic spikiness of the “tails” makes me grin.  With all this color, I had to break out a skin from Curio, the Tulip makeup in the April skin.  Flushed cheeks seem appropriate, no?  I tried a more polished route with the dress, pairing the Allison updo from the brand new fri.day with a great new(ish) skin from Atomic.  The nude colors really show off the tan sheen on the skin, I think.

And… that’s it for now!  It’s time for my afternoon popsicle.  See you soon… stay cool!
