Feast Your Eyes

July 13, 2010

Prim eyelashes. *sigh* Is there anything more fiddly for the SL fashionista to fit?  I have two pairs that I wear routinely, mainly because they already fit and I can’t be bothered to spend time on others.  That is, until yesterday.  Yesterday, you see, I made it a mission of mine not to be such a wimp. Fashion is so eeeeeeasy in SL, it is easy to get lazy about it.  Buy it, wear it, mix it, layer it… a few little clicks.  But in real life, fashion is suffering: be it 4 inch heels or starving into a season of miniskirts.  It was high time for Jenopolis to pay the price of looking good.

So– here are three stellar eyelash sets which I fitted myself in an unusual display of patience and mild suffering.  Not that they are perfect… I’m not THAT good with details.  But I did step back afterwards and think– dang!  Worth the time.  They are pretty amazing little pieces of art.

Also– as a little extra treat for the eyelash work, I featured some thrifty finds of mine from the last week or so.  Including a gorgeous 100L skin!  Enjoy…

Moving Day

June 5, 2010

Moving in real life is not easy or fun.  Moving back into SL after a big break… easier, more fun, and much much cheaper!  🙂

That said, there are lots of things that need to be set up all over again, and loads of shopping to do just to get a handle on what is *now*.  Phew!  That can certainly take it out of a girl.  So, this morning I dressed down and had a little bit of inventory rediscovery, organized my closet once again, and dressed for a bit of HARD WORK.

(More pics and details after the jump…)

Out with the Old, Out with the New

December 15, 2009

And by “out”, I mean out of the closet.  A total mix up of old and new today, but all beloved.  AND all serving one purpose… to set the mood for a day of hideous decorating.  I am actually too cheap to spend money on SL Christmas décor this year… that would take money out of my fashion budget, you know?  So that means I have been trotting out alllll sorts of hideously out of date SL decorations from years past.  Interesting in a historical way?  Yes.  Pretty?  Errr.  Ummmm.  Not usually. (What was I thinking??)

Anyhow, I will forge on with the FASHION notes, because unlike my plaid and poinsettia wreath there, I feel very sure that these clothes are perfectly lovely.  I’ll concentrate on the new…

First up: the mittens.  I cannot go another second without talking about my love for these big, wooly, embroidered things!  They were bought on a random visit to Frippery thanks to one holiday hunt or another, and they are new and completely wonderful.  You can’t see it here, but each mitten is embroidered differently.  I would apologize for my ill-chosen pose not showing you both hands, but then again… now you have a surprise waiting for you when you buy yours.

Second: the SOCKS.  Not revolutionary, you say? What would you think if I told you I plucked them off a TREE?  A sock TREE?   Aha!  I knew I would get your interest.  Slow Kitchen has hit on an irresistible Christmas idea: socks on a tree, just L$20 each.  Fatpacks for just L$80.  Amazing selection, from the ordinary (like these) to the truly original and amazing.  Different bulks, different materials, different lengths… it is the most sock fun ever.

More new details: Christmas glasses!  Leave it to Duboo to do the most funky, cool little Christmas glasses, and then offer them up in 3 variations WITH 3 Christmas tights as well.  Completely wonderful.  Plus, they have an option to attach on the left ear, which left me room for candy cane and eyelashes as well.  Huzzah!

Oooo, that reminds me: candy cane.  A Sanu interactive toy that not only looks great, but is kooky and fun for you and friends to play with by just clicking it.  Perfect for Christmas!

So, there you have it… another red and green outfit for your files.  Eventually I *will* want to wear other colors.  Just… not today.  After all, I am the best decorated thing in the house!  Heh.

Go have fun decorating yourselves, and I will see you soon!  MUAH!

Winter Schlump

December 6, 2009

There is one good thing about being off the SL grid for a while– when you get back, you have a whole season’s worth of beautiful clothes to try on.  Today, I reveled in my accumulated mass of fashion, and fixated on creating a little Winter Schlump… you know, the kind of clothes you wear to hole up in with your friends, enjoying a hot chocolate spiked with whisky and watching old Christmas flicks.  The art of the cozy yet aesthetically pleasing schlump.

The first outfit was totally inspired by this Pr!tty hair, which was a new find for me in a tiny corner of Black Market– it is so dramatic without being fussy and formal, and it is BIG.  I love big!  And the rose-studded hair band is super sweet, no?  So sweet, in fact, that I couldn’t resist a little bad attitude…

I am also a little (err, a lot) in love with my winter whites here.  The cardigan is courtesy of Ohmai, and if she isn’t genius with creating fashion forward schlump, I don’t know who is!  The cardi here is just great, with a perfect length and hang to wear with a million things.  Complementing it here is a skirt I couldn’t love more, the Niniko skinny skirt.  Of course, leave it to Niniko to make the skinny skirt an outstanding cargo, devoid of the Mad Men sex kitten thing and all about looking cozy as can be without a hint of poof.  I adore the belt, and the sculpted pockets on the back are just GAWgeous.  To spice up the neutrals, I tossed on another tee from my incresingly tall pile of Gbberish stuff– such a statement piece!

One more thing– these BOOTS.  If I had them in rl, I just know I would have a hard time taking them off.  Ever.  Beetlebones at its best, they are quirky and comfy and so different!  The tassles make me smile like crazy, and I can’t wait to wear them in another color with another outfit and see what other magic they can spin.

Study Break

August 20, 2009

A couple of casual study looks today, pulled together from some new favorite pieces.  Some are new releases, some are just new to me, but all of them are ready for the library for a little studying, and then out for a couple of pitchers afterwards.  🙂

Outfit 1

OK, so a bare midriff may not be ideal for helping fellow students concentrate, but this new release from Decoy deserves a blank canvas!  It is an exquisitely detailed piece, and I love the cropped length, zipper action, and the nicely done prim sleeves.  The second highlight here for me is the messenger bag from Cherry.  This is total mod-fest!  You can choose the bag print, the leather color, and even choose the three pins on the flap.  Woot!  Fun for lots of moods and looks, and I love the messenger bag look, an oft-neglected bag type in SL.  I couldn’t resist the very-much-blogged Genius Peepers from Miel, either.  The tape on the bridge is so cute, and not overdone, and every single bit of this is color changeable, too.  The other new thing here is the Pink Fuel skin.  Sooooooo super sweet, with a fresh and rosy complexion and the most adorable freckles– squee!

Outfit 2

A little more color here, but just as comfy for pulling an all-nighter, no?  This whole look is based around a pair of pants I bought at Niniko a couple months ago, and for some reason have never blogged!  What a crime!  These are such an adorable mish mash of patterns, and the silhouette is simple and current, and it comes with a pretty great belt, too.  I used this opportunity to put on a new acquisition of mine, the super tight, short cardigan from Pig.  Gawwwd, I love Pig!  It looks so casually chic over this adorable Jellyfish tee from Duboo, a Designer’s United event piece.  The cutey-patootie hair from Ohmai makes me smile whenever I wear it, and I think it has met its soulmate in cuteness with these Miel flats.  How is it possible for pixels to look so comfy and squooshy??  LOVE!

So, study hard, drink lots of coffee, speed type the last six pages of your paper on your laptop, and at 2 am head out to the ‘Stend for a couple shots of tequila with the boys of Pi Kappa Alpha!

(Ohhh, can you sense my nostalgia for college creeping in?  I loved study breaks!)

Happy shopping!

Designers United… for Jellyfish!

August 16, 2009

Get ready to squee: yesterday the Designer’s United Event opened!  This time the theme was Jellyfish, a very appropriate theme for August in my neck of the woods.  The range of creations is amazing… everything from poses to hair to clothing and accessories, with some interpretations of jellyfish being more literal than others.  In any case, the proof is in the Lindens– I could not reel in my shopping impulses and I promptly bought out the whole store of things for my virtual closet.

Is that crazy of me?  You be the judge:

Bustier

close up bustier

First off– the skin.  JM:Mai has created two versions of a Jellyfish skin, and this one is called water.  It is utterly lovely, with freckles and a translucent glow that really does recall the look of a jellyfish, but in a non-costumey, flattering and wearable way.   The makeup on the face is all courtesy of the skin, but the tattoo below the neck is not.  That is an adorably affordable creation from Duboo, rendering Jellyfish as cartoonish and colorful things which… well, I would like to IMAGINE they are.

Adding to the adorable factor of this outfit is the uber-fun two tone hair from Ohmai, which has my fave ginger as the base with a big streak of lemony yellow threaded in the braid from the back.  There are other color combinations available, too, and the style is so hipster and does mimic jellyfishy tentacles very cleverly.

The bustier top is from This is a Fawn, and while it is not the most literal of jellyfish interpretations, it certainly is squeelicious and has great gradiation of colors and texture!  I paired that with some freebie tights from Royal Blue, and some genius poofer shorts from Gigi, for a funky little hipster Jelly girl look.

(Another outfit and all the slurls, after the jump)
